Victoria University Press is a major scholarly publisher specialising in New Zealand history and public affairs. The Press is also a leading publisher of fiction and poetry. Founded in the 1970s, Victoria University Press now has a backlist of over 200 books in print, and on average issues twenty five new titles each year.

Established in 1971, Dunmore Publishing publishes 15–20 broad-ranging non-fiction titles each year, covering areas such as health, economics, politics, society, education and history. Some are general non-fiction titles, while others are designed for the university, polytechnic and secondary school markets. Institution and local histories are also published.

Craig Potton Publishing Ltd is one of New Zealand’s largest independent publishers. The company specialises in quality non-fiction, with an emphasis on high standards of production and a particular interest in photography, natural history, outdoor recreation, reference, biography, New Zealand art and culture, and social and environmental issues. In addition, Craig Potton Publishing is a major publisher of New Zealand calendars.

Cengage Learning New Zealand is a leading provider of learning solutions to the secondary school and higher education markets in New Zealand. It is committed to publishing the finest educational resources for students and teachers. Under the New House imprint, its secondary school texts have been designed for the New Zealand curriculum to ensure that students acquire the skills and knowledge to achieve the best results. In addition to successful national educational publishing, Cengage Learning New Zealand distributes Australian and UK resources to secondary school markets, and Australian, US and UK resources to higher education and library reference markets.

Awa Press is an independent, award-winning, New Zealand-owned company that specialises in contemporary non-fiction by New Zealand and overseas authors. Its list includes travel, memoir, sport, collected essays, the Ginger Series, 100 Essential New Zealand series and Awa Science. The company is keenly interested in international co-publishing and rights sales. Aries Publishing Ltd has been a publisher of educational magazines in various forms for the past ten years, and currently publishes the Directory of Residential Camps New Zealand. The company is branching out into more general publishing of books, specialising in education, sport and leisure. Aries Publishing will consider Te Reo Maori texts for schools.
